Getting off the bus, train or tube one stop before or after your stop
The Basics
Even a small increase in activity each day can make a difference to your fitness levels and will help burn calories – all helping you to reach your goals.
Buy an A-Z or check out a street map web site and find a new route to your place of work, a friend’s house or any destination you go to.
Common Myths, misconceptions and excuses
- “The next stop is a really long way away” – check both ways, it may be better to get off one stop later or start your journey one stop before your usual stop – this may help you in getting a seat if you need to sit down.
Tips & tricks
- New routes can make regular trips more interesting – you may even discover new shops or other places that may interest you.
- Work out your route before you go.
- Don’t try out a new route for the first time in the dark – especially if it’s in an area you are not familiar with.
- Get a pedometer and compare the distance in steps from the various different routes you could take – it will prove more rewarding if you know that a particular route will add, say, an extra 500 steps to you daily step total.
Walking one more stop to get on transport could take you into a different charging zone (cheaper or more expensive) so check your ticket.
