Are you ready to lose weight?
Once you have made your healthy New Year resolutions, you’ll probably expect to put them into action the very next day. At this time of year you may be especially ready and motivated to lose weight which is great.
But how motivated are you to actually make the long term changes that will bring about this weight loss?
Before diving head first into a new life, you need to really think about why you want to make changes to your eating or activity behaviours. If it’s because you want to lose weight then think about why: to look good on the beach this summer, to give you more energy or to reduce your risk of heart disease?
As with any new healthy living plan, it is also important to be realistic about what you’re willing and not willing to change; having smaller portions when eating out – resisting the vending machine at work – or finding time to get to the gym? Spend a few minutes writing down a list of the advantages and disadvantages of changing your lifestyle.
Weight Loss Motivations
Make sure that there are more advantages than disadvantages though! Think back to these motivations on a regular basis, keeping it real and helping to keep you motivated through the change process.
Next, ask yourself how confident you feel about making these changes? How confident are you that you can succeed? Rate your answers on a scale of 1 (next to impossible) – 10 (very confident). The more confidence you have in your ability to change, the more successful you will be. For the answers you scored less than 10, ask yourself what steps you need to take to increase your confidence score.
For example, you may feel you need to enlist extra support from your family, friends, partner or colleagues. Or you may just need correct information and advice about healthy eating.
