Buying lunch from a place a few blocks away
The Basics
Eating a variety of food is a good way to keep on track with any eating plan and avoid boredom.
Finding new places to eat introduces you not only to new food choices but also to new surroundings, new people and new experiences.
Myths, misconceptions and excuses
- “Time is a problem”. Everyone should be entitled to a lunch break – even if it’s just 30 minutes – not having a break is often more counter productive than sitting at your desk all day – feeling tired, irritable and annoyed
Tips & tricks
- Many ‘chain’ cafes, sandwich shops and ‘mini’ supermarkets have branches near to one another. Check their web sites and see where else they have branches.
- Different supermarkets have different ‘healthy option’ sandwiches and lunch i.e. Sainsbury’s has the ‘Be Good to Yourself’ range, Tesco ‘Healthy Living’, Somerfield ‘Good Intentions’, M&S ‘Count on Us’, Morrisons ‘Eat Smart’, Asda ‘Good For You’, Waitrose ‘Perfectly Balanced’. The variety of different foods available can be amazing, go and check them all out over the course of a week.
- Take a couple of minutes to check the portion guide on our website – we’ve already worked out the portions for many of the products sold by leading retailers – so you can accurately monitor what you're eating using our Nutrition card system. You could be shocked at the hidden cost of many foods.
- Walking further to get your lunch is a simple way of increasing your daily activity.
